Trump will visit China in November at Xi Jinping's invitation: "We will talk a lot"
US President Donald Trump says he accepts Chinese President Xi Jinping's invitation to visit China in November, following the Chinese leader's three-day state visit to Washington, DPA reports.
"We will meet again in November in China, and then at the G20 in December in Miami, Florida. Much has been accomplished and much will be accomplished," Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
He said Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were returning to China after a state visit marked by "friendship, strength, and success" for both nations.
Shortly before Trump's announcement, Xi Jinping had extended the invitation during a tea ceremony at the White House, noting that the two leaders could meet on two further occasions this year: the APEC summit in China and the G20 summit in Miami in December.
"We invite the President and his wife to visit China," Xi said.
"Well, thank you very much; we will come. And we will have much to discuss," Trump replied.
Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan arrived in the U.S. capital on Wednesday, September 23, for the three-day state visit. According to Chinese officials, the discussions covered international conflicts, including the war in the Middle East and Russia's war against Ukraine.
Trade tensions between the world's two largest economies also featured prominently in the talks.
Although the two leaders exchanged warm words in public, their direct meetings yielded few concrete results; the United States is expected to release further details on Monday regarding progress made in resolving the trade dispute.
Donald Trump last met with Xi Jinping in Beijing in May. China is hosting this year's APEC summit—scheduled for mid-November in Shenzhen, a major technology hub in the south of the country—while the United States is hosting the G20 summit in Miami in December.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he intends to attend the APEC meeting, fueling speculation about a possible trilateral meeting between Xi Jinping, Donald Trump, and Vladimir Putin. However, no such meeting has been confirmed.
Donald Trump and Xi Jinping also met around the time of last year's APEC summit in South Korea; the two leaders held their talks in the nearby city of Busan rather than at the summit venue in Gyeongju.
At the time, the two sides agreed to a broader truce in their ongoing trade dispute—an understanding that later became known as the Busan agreement.
