Hydrological warning: Low water flow in the Nistru, the Prut, and most small rivers
On September 27, the Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring Authority issued Red, Orange, and Yellow hydrological warnings for several river sections in the Republic of Moldova. Water flow in the Nistru and Prut rivers, as well as in most smaller rivers, will be reduced until October 2.
According to meteorologists, a "Red Code" warning is in effect for the Nistru River between Naslavcea and Camenca, with the flow rate standing at approximately 15% of the long-term average. This warning is driven by discharge patterns from the Novodnistrovsk Reservoir in Ukraine, as the volume released downstream matches the reservoir's inflow.
An "Orange Code" warning applies to the Dubăsari and Tudora sectors, where the flow rate is around 30%.
On the Prut River, the Criva-Costești and Ungheni-Brânza sectors are under an "Orange Code" (with 20–30% flow), while the Costești-Ungheni stretch is under a "Yellow Code" (with 35–40% of long-term monthly average values).
Additionally, a "Red Code" is in effect for certain small rivers—specifically the Draghiște, Cubolta, Ciulucul Mic, and Botna—where the flow rate is 10% or less of the long-term average.
Warning codes also apply to other rivers, including the Ichel, Vilia, Răut, Bâc, Lunga, and Căinar.
Given this situation, citizens and businesses are urged to use water resources rationally.
