Moldova targets key role in Ukraine recovery

Moldovan enterprises must forge direct cross-border partnerships to capitalize on Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction projects across key sectors, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan urged business leaders at Moldova Business Week 2026 in Chisinau.

Speaking at the thematic panel “Moldova: Partner in Ukraine’s Recovery and Reconstruction,” Tofan emphasized that geographic proximity, established supply chains, and existing business capabilities position Moldova as a natural regional operational platform.

“Opportunities exist, and I firmly believe that businesses in both Moldova and Ukraine can benefit from them,” said the prime minister.

Logistics, energy, and construction materials

Tofan identified warehousing, regional logistics hubs, and the supply of building materials as immediate areas where Moldovan companies can provide direct support to Ukrainian partners.

The energy sector offers equally strategic potential. Expanding electricity generation and commissioning new cross-border interconnections with European backing will allow both nations to scale up bilateral energy transfers and enhance regional grid resilience.

“We are looking at what could become the largest post-World War II reconstruction effort, valued at approximately $600 billion,” said Tofan. “Moldova can play a genuine, substantial role across logistics, energy, construction materials, and infrastructure.”

Unlocking 400 commercial avenues

A joint market assessment conducted by the Kyiv School of Economics and AmCham Moldova has identified roughly 400 commercial opportunities for Moldovan enterprises within the reconstruction framework.

Tofan called on local entrepreneurs to turn these assessments into concrete ventures. In turn, the government pledged to accelerate regulatory reforms by cutting red tape, streamlining customs and tax clearance, and modernizing transport links.

The panel was organized by AmCham Moldova and the Invest Moldova Agency as part of Moldova Business Week 2026, the country’s flagship forum for private enterprise and foreign direct investment.

The forum gathered over 1,500 participants from more than 50 countries, including European officials, international financiers, and trade delegations from Africa and Latin America, across a program of 35 dedicated business events nationwide.
