Russian strike damages key Kyiv bridge over Dnipro

A Russian drone strike damaged Kyiv’s North Bridge overnight, cutting transit across the Dnipro River after explosions tore through the roadway and severed overhead power cables, municipal authorities reported.

Transit disrupted across Dnipro

The overnight bombardment hit the bridge’s roadway and tore down overhead trolleybus power cables, prompting an immediate halt to vehicular traffic. Municipal authorities later restored four bus routes across the crossing, though public transport services continue to experience extensive delays throughout the capital.

The North Bridge serves as a vital logistical artery, connecting Kyiv’s historical centre and government district on the western bank with major residential quarters on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River.

Escalating bridge attacks

The strike follows a concerted campaign against the capital's river crossings. On October 1 and 2, Russian forces targeted Kyiv's South Bridge with drones on at least three separate occasions, halting road traffic entirely and triggering gridlock across municipal roadways.

Ukrainian Air Force officials said Russian forces launched 157 strike drones across the country during the overnight assault, including 45 high-speed jet-propelled models alongside unarmed decoy aircraft designed to saturate air defence networks.

Ukrainian air defence units intercepted or neutralised 131 incoming aircraft, according to military statements.
