President Maia Sandu welcomed the European Union's decision to sanction those who destabilise the situation in Moldova

Individuals who participate in destabilising actions in the Republic of Moldova and threaten the sovereignty and independence of our country, the rule of law, stability and security of the state will be sanctioned. This is the decision of the Council of the European Union, thanks to which the European Union will be able to freeze the assets and block the entry into the EU of persons who undermine the democratic political process or try to overthrow the constitutional order, including through acts of violence. This is mentioned in a press release from the Moldovan Presidency.

"We thank the European Union for its support in maintaining stability and security in the country by imposing individual sanctions on those who want to cause destabilisation. We thank Romania for its constant involvement and strong support for this important initiative for Moldova. The adoption of this sanctions regime is a clear demonstration of the EU's support for Moldova, for our European path and for ensuring peace and stability in the region", said President Maia Sandu.

The restrictive measures could also be applied to persons involved in the misappropriation of public funds, who would be in a position to take control or seriously affect the work of state institutions, the statement added.
