Moldovan weightlifter Alexandru Baldji is the European junior champion

A remarkable performance by weightlifter Alexandru Baldji. The Moldovan athlete has become the European Junior Champion (under 20). He competed in the under-85 kg weight category.

In the snatch, the athlete—trained by Sergiu Crețu—lifted 155 kilograms to take second place.

Alexandru continued in the clean and jerk, lifting 192 kilograms to win the gold medal.

With a total of 347 kilograms, Alexandru Baldji became the European champion.

More than 40 percent of children in rural areas live in absolute poverty. This phenomenon also affects over a third of children in the Republic of Moldova. Unstable jobs, low agricultural income, and limited access to services and infrastructure are among the main causes. Experts note that social benefits are insufficient to address this situation. To address this, it is necessary to create well-paid, stable jobs in rural areas, develop the local economy, improve infrastructure, and ensure better access to education and healthcare.

Irrigation for drought-affected farmers: 7,000 hectares targeted for investment

Nearly 7,000 hectares of agricultural land in the Căușeni, Anenii Noi, and Ștefan Vodă districts will be irrigated following an infrastructure rehabilitation project, financed through a loan of nearly 103 million euros from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with support from the European Union and national contributions. The project entails modernising the centralised irrigation systems in Căușeni and Puhăcenii de Sus; the former is currently non-functional, while the latter irrigates only a portion of the area it is intended to serve.
