Zelenskyy meets US envoys to discuss peace strategy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to map out diplomatic next steps, emphasizing peace through strength and trust-based cooperation.

High-stakes diplomatic contacts

Writing on the social media platform X, Zelenskyy confirmed that discussions centered on bilateral negotiations and follow-ups to earlier talks held between Ukrainian and American delegations in Florida.

“I had a discussion with the US president's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Peace can only be achieved through strength and cooperation based on trust,” Zelenskyy wrote. “In particular, we discussed the results of our teams' meeting in Florida. Our teams remain in continuous contact. We are also preparing the next steps in diplomacy.”

Rising tensions over fuel and satellite access

The exchange marked the first direct dialogue between Zelenskyy and senior US representatives since bilateral relations grew strained following Donald Trump's conclusion of a diesel fuel deal with Russia ten days prior, according to Reuters and Axios.

The discussions also unfolded against the backdrop of assertions by Zelenskyy that the Trump administration was behind curbs placed on Starlink and Starshield satellite communication systems utilized by Ukraine's armed forces.
