Putin proposes three-way Ukraine summit with Trump and Xi

Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a trilateral November summit with US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine, Reuters reported on Monday.
APEC sidelines proposal
Citing a report by The Wall Street Journal based on people familiar with the matter, the news agency noted that any prospective framework could heavily favor Moscow. A former Russian intelligence officer familiar with the discussions said Putin floated the initiative directly to Trump during an October 9 telephone conversation.
The proposed tripartite talks would take place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit scheduled for November 18-19 in Shenzhen, China. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that preliminary discussions regarding a potential meeting occurred, though he stopped short of confirming any finalized agreement.
Washington and Kyiv divided
A senior US official stated that Trump has not yet agreed to the trilateral meeting but remains open to considering the proposal. The diplomatic overture follows signs of warming ties between Washington and Moscow, including Trump's announcement of an agreement to purchase Russian diesel and an executive order suspending several key sanctions. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sharply criticized the sanctions relief and diesel procurement, warning that such measures embolden the Kremlin and threaten to prolong the war.
Trump responded on his Truth Social platform by accusing Zelensky of lacking interest in ending the conflict. The US president maintained that his administration's strategic measures aim to facilitate negotiations rather than undermine efforts to conclude the war.
