Grants up to 20,000 euros for Moldovan researchers

Researchers in the Republic of Moldova can obtain grants of up to 20,000 euros for conducting scientific studies, or up to 10,000 euros for promoting research results internationally. The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC), in partnership with the National Agency for Research and Development (ANCD), has launched two calls for grant proposals under the "Higher Education in Moldova" project, which is supported by the World Bank. Applications may be submitted until December 20.

Research grants

The first call is aimed at researchers aged between 25 and 50 who hold a PhD degree or are currently enrolled in doctoral studies, and who are employed by, enrolled at, or affiliated with a public university in the Republic of Moldova. Applicants must demonstrate a consistent track record of research performance and maintain their affiliation with the host institution throughout the project implementation period.

Grants may amount to up to 20,000 euros for a sub-project with a maximum duration of 12 months. The funds may be used for scientific research activities, the acquisition of small-scale equipment and software, the purchase of specialized literature, participation in conferences, and the publication of scientific work.

Researchers must select one of the priority themes established by the MEC (Ministry of Education and Research). The MEC will select one beneficiary for each theme.

Investments in promotion

The second program is aimed at high-performing researchers with recognized national and international visibility. It aims to support the dissemination of scientific results and strengthen the reputation of research from the Republic of Moldova.

Unlike the first call, this program is open to all research fields represented at international conferences, provided that the projects contribute to increasing the international visibility of Moldovan research.

The maximum funding is 10,000 euros for projects lasting up to 12 months. Funds may cover participation in prestigious international scientific events, including travel expenses, accommodation, and registration fees. Such participation is mandatory for every project funded under this program.

The grant may also cover the publication of scientific articles, books, and monographs in high-quality journals or with international publishing houses, as well as costs associated with international patenting.

Applicants must demonstrate a consistent progression in their scientific performance and international visibility. The evaluation will focus on long-term contributions—specifically achievements from the last five years, such as publications in top-tier journals, conference participation, invited lectures, and secured research grants.

Submission of applications

For both programs, proposals must be completed in Romanian and submitted as a PDF. Applications must include the official letter from the applicant institution, the sub-project proposal form, a declaration stating that the applicant has not secured other funding for the proposed activities, a document confirming the applicant's status, and the applicant's CV.

Applications must be sent via email to [email protected] by December 20. Proposals will undergo both an administrative and a qualitative evaluation, conducted by a panel of experts. The results are expected to be announced in January 2027.
