Ion Șoltoianu remains in preventive detention for another 30 days
The former athlete Ion Șoltoianu remains in preventive detention for another 30 days. The measure was applied by the Chisinau Court based in Ciocana at the request of the prosecutors.
Soltoianu was detained at the beginning of April. He is accused of blackmail. He allegedly claimed more than five million lei from a former fellow prisoner. The victim turned out to be a 45-year-old man from Chisinau, who during the time he was serving his sentence for fraud, the accused was in prison for murder.
The blackmail continued even after their release from prison, during which Şoltoianu threatened the man and his family with physical violence and death.
