Energocom holds in stock natural gas in volume about 10% of the annual consumption of the Republic of Moldova
Energocom still has in stock about 150 million cubic metres of natural gas out of the total of 600 million purchased in 2022 for the cold period of the year. The remaining gas in stock constitutes about 10 percent of the resources consumed during the cold period of the year, Energocom representatives said today.
Between 23 May 2022 and 19 January 2023, the state-owned Energocom bought a total of about 600 million cubic metres of gas at an average price of 923 euros per 1,000 cubic metres, Energocom executive director Victor Bînzari told a press conference. According to him, the remaining volume is due to higher temperatures during the cold period of the year.
"Throughout this period we have procured about 600 million cubic metres, 480 are other sources, non-Russian gas. At the moment we have around 150 million in storage. If we have a total consumption for the year of one billion cubic metres, we have basically 10 for the next winter. In one month we can use this amount and it is very good for us to have it in reserve for any eventuality", explained the head of Energocom.
Victor Bînzari also said that in 2022- 2023 Energocom was the first to carry out gas transactions through the Iasi-Ungheni - Chisinau gas pipeline, on the reverse trans-Balkan route and through the interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria.
Referring to the purchase cost for April, Bînzari said Energocom buys at a price of $672 per thousand cubic metres, similar to the price at which Gazprom delivers to Moldovagaz.
Last summer, Energocom was designated by the authorities as the company that will buy the gas needed to make up the shortfall from the exchange.
