The scandal at the Chisinau City Hall is getting bigger. PAS deputy Radu Marian reacts to Mayor Ion Ceban's statements: "ridiculous aberrations and conspiracies"

The scandal at the Chisinau City Hall, where a few days ago CNA security guards detained the head of the General Directorate of Medical and Social Assistance, Boris Gîlcă, and one of his subordinates, is growing. The mayor of the capital, Ion Ceban, accuses one of the administrators of the Rîșcani sector placement centre, Irina Certan, of having cooperated with the Action and Solidarity Party to provide false evidence against Gîlcă, who is the subject of a case of abuse of office and embezzlement of foreign funds intended for refugees. Asked for a reaction, PAS MP Radu Marian described Ceban's statements as an aberration. As for Certan, he says he has no connection with PAS.

In a live intervention on social media, the mayor of the capital, Ion Ceban, said that Irina Certan, one of the administrators of the placement centre in Riscani sector, is allegedly interposed by PAS to obtain evidence against Boris Gilca, which the mayor says is false. While Ceban does not accept Gîlca's resignation, things are different for the administrator. That's despite the fact that yesterday, law enforcement officials made public the assets found at the town hall official's home.

"Ms. Certan Irina will be removed from office and I demand that she be held accountable in accordance with all provisions of the law for all the cases that happened and for this docile cooperation with various PAS representatives," the capital mayor stressed.

We tried to get a reaction from the official concerned but Irina Certan had her phone switched off. And Action and Solidarity Party MP Radu Marian claims that what Ion Ceban said are ridiculous aberrations and conspiracies.

"This is the first time I hear of such a person. I have never heard of him having any kind of connection with PAS. It is shameful that he resorts to such things to cover up, to divert public attention from this suspicious act of scandalous corruption in the City Hall, committed by City Hall officials. Normally in such situations the heads of institutions should at least suspend the people they are hovering over. Obviously for Ceban reputation does not matter and if he wants to protect acts of corruption and support them in the City Hall, that is his business", MP Radu Marian told Moldova 1.

On Thursday, CNA investigators together with anti-corruption prosecutors raided several addresses in the capital, including the headquarters of the temporary placement centre for refugees in Chisinau, as well as the homes of employees of the General Directorate of Medical and Social Assistance of the Chisinau City Hall. During the raids, several boxes of food products, hygiene items and products, sleeping bags, tableware and other goods were found, which were allegedly stolen from the warehouse of the Temporary Placement Centre for Refugees by the officials of the institution. Following Thursday's searches, the head of the General Directorate for Medical and Social Assistance, Boris Gîlca, and a subordinate were detained for 72 hours. At a press conference yesterday, the head of the National Anti-Corruption Centre, Iulian Rusu, said that nine other people were also targeted in the case. According to the NAC, the investigation established that the temporary placement centre for refugees in Chisinau, from which several goods and food products were allegedly stolen, was financed from the budget, but also from money provided by eight international NGOs. Last year alone, the centre received 100 million lei. A vacuum cleaner, two microwaves, two heaters, four sleeping bags, eight boxes of crockery and several sets of food were found at Boris Gilca's home. Shortly after the conference, Ion Ceban came up with a reaction. He claims that with these actions, they are trying to cancel the efforts made by the City Hall in managing the refugee crisis. The mayor believes that Boris Gâlca could not have done what he is accused of. He also announced that the official has submitted his resignation request, but he will not accept it. Boris Gilca was released from solitary confinement last night.
