Inflation fell slightly in November but prices continued to rise
The annual rate of inflation fell to 31.4% in November, from 34.6% in October, as average consumer prices increased in November 2022 compared to October 2022 by 1.0%, compared to 3.5% in the corresponding period of 2021. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the increase in average consumer prices was determined by the increase in prices for food products by 0.8%, for non-food goods by 0.9% and services provided to the population by 1.5%.
According to the cited source, for one month (November - October, current), chicken eggs went up in price by 12.0%, vegetables – by 5.5%, sugar – by 3.8%, bread – by 1 .9%, milk and dairy products – by 1.6%. Also, during the reporting period, price reductions were recorded for fruit - by 9.7% and vegetable oil - by 0.6%. For non-food goods, in November 2022, compared to October 2022, there were sharper increases in the price of fuels - by 1.2%. During one month, the prices of services provided to the population in the environment also increased significantly by 2.5%. According to the NBS, the increase was determined, in particular, by the increase in average prices for electricity supply services - by 37.4%, which in turn generated an increase in average consumer prices by about 1.2%. For one year, according to the statistical data presented by the National Bank of Romania (November 2022-December 2021), average consumer prices increased by 31.4%, including food products by 33.1%, non-food goods by 21.2 % and services provided to the population by - 44.7 percent.
