"Due to the threat of attacks in which surface and underwater robotic complexes are used, the technical means of protection of the main base of the fleet and ship berths have been increased, stations for optical-electronic and radio-technical surveillance have been equipped," Sokolov said in - an interview given to the army newspaper Krasnaia Zvezda.

The commander of Russia's Black Sea Fleet has said defenses are being strengthened amid a flurry of Ukrainian drone attacks targeting its main base, the Crimean port of Sevastopol.

Sevastopol has been repeatedly attacked by drones since the beginning of Russia's military campaign in Ukraine in February 2022, but Ukraine has avoided taking direct responsibility for the strikes on the Crimean peninsula, which Russia unilaterally annexed in 2014.
