UPDATE: Polling stations in Gagauzia have been closed. First preliminary results

UPDATE: 53,458 voters took part in today's elections for the position of Bashkan of Gagauzia, the autonomy's Electoral Commission informs. According to data received from polling stations, 54.56% of citizens voted by 9:00 pm, which means that the elections have reached the validation threshold.

According to the basic lists, 47,991 voters voted, while 5,477 voted on the supplementary lists. The candidate with the most votes has not yet been published. In the first round of the elections for the head of Gagauzia's Bashkan, the turnout at 21:00 was 57,019 voters or 57.8%.

UPDATE: 12:00 According to the data received from the polling station electoral offices, at 12:00, the turnout was 21,949 voters or 23.7%.

The more than 92 thousand voters in Gagauzia, registered on the basic lists, are expected to go to the polls to elect the Bashkan of the autonomous region.

More than one third of the electorate must vote in the second round for the elections of the Governor of Gagauzia to be valid. If elected, the Bashkan becomes a member of the government.

65 polling stations opened at 07:00 and will close at 21:00. 79 international observers from more than 10 countries and more than 80 national observers have been accredited for today's poll. If elected the Bashkan becomes a member of the government.

In Gagauzia, the second round of elections for the position of Bashkan was held today. The candidate of the Sor Party, Evghenia Guțul, and Grigorii Uzun, backed by the PSRM, fought for this seat.
