NATO official: The Alliance is ready to boost practical support for the Republic of Moldova through various programs
NATO will continue to provide support to the Republic of Moldova, in particular, in this complicated security situation, said the President of the Military Committee of the North Atlantic Alliance, Admiral Robert Bauer, who is making an official visit to Chisinau. For his part, the commander of the National Army, Brigadier General Eduard Ohladciuc, stated, after the meeting, that the impact of our country's cooperation with NATO is tangible, both on the military and civilian dimensions.
The cooperation of the Republic of Moldova with NATO is multidimensional. Various projects are jointly implemented, said the commander of the National Army, Eduard Ohladciuc. According to the official, this contributes both to the modernization of the Army of the Republic of Moldova and to the implementation of some civil projects, such as the Partnership for Peace, or the pesticide destruction project.
"Such concrete actions increase the interoperability and professionalism of the Moldovan military, an important factor for increasing our presence in international operations. During the dialogue I had with Admiral Bauer, I mentioned our country's contribution to regional security through the participation of 18 contingents of Moldovan peacekeepers in international peacekeeping operations in Kosovo, which is under the auspices of NATO, since 2014, said Ohladciuc.
In this context, the President of the Military Committee of the North Atlantic Alliance, Robert Bauer, stated that Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine gave a new impetus to the partnership between NATO and the Republic of Moldova.
"The war started by Russia in Ukraine fundamentally changed the global security environment and has a direct impact on the Republic of Moldova. Therefore, we will continue to support you, as decided at the Alliance Summit in Madrid last year - to strengthen partnerships with countries that are exposed to Russian pressure and threats. As the president of the Republic of Moldova recently declared, your country, like other European states, is paying a huge price for this senseless war started by Russia. Therefore, support for Moldova is on our common agenda and will remain as long as the Republic of Moldova needs it. NATO is ready to step up practical support through the defense capacity building package, but also through other programs, such as Cyber Security or professional development for officials in the Security and Defense sector," said Robert Bauer.
In addition to meetings with the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the Great General Staff of the National Army, Admiral Bauer will meet with several officials from state institutions, as well as with representatives of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Public Order.
