Austrian Speaker Wolfgang Sobotka meets Igor Grosu and Dorin Recean
The Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, had a meeting with the President of the National Council of the Republic of Austria, Wolfgang Sobotka. It is the first visit to the Republic of Moldova by a Parliament Speaker of Austria in the 31 years since the establishment of Moldovan-Austrian diplomatic relations. Also, Prime Minister Dorin Recean received the distinguished guest at the Government.
"This visit proves once again that the Moldovans and the Republic of Moldova are not alone in our European integration process", said the Parliament Speaker at the beginning of the discussions.
The two parliament speakers spoke about the reform agenda of the Republic of Moldova in terms of justice, energy and information security.
During the meeting, current topics were discussed, including the opportunities to boost cooperation between our country and the Republic of Austria. The officials agreed that the two countries will become partners in several infrastructure projects, digitalization projects, and the Republic of Moldova will benefit from Austrian experience in fields such as agriculture, green energy and industry.
The Parliament Speaker mentioned that Austria has always been a reliable partner for our country and that we continue to count on support. Igor Grosu also referred to our country's ambitious plan to open accession negotiations to the European Union by the end of 2023. "It is not an easy road to travel, but we have determination, political will, but also the support of the citizens", said the Parliament Speaker.
"Europe is strong only together" - is the message that speaker Sobotka conveyed during the meeting and which will be conveyed to all participants in the "European Moldova" Assembly, which will take place on May 21, in the Grand National Assembly Square.
The opportunities for deepening Moldovan-Austrian bilateral relations, especially on the commercial-economic and investment dimension, the firm course of our country's accession to the European Union were the topics discussed during the meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and the President of the National Council of the Republic of Austria, Wolfgang Sobotka.
Opportunities for intensifying commercial-economic collaboration in agriculture and green energy were discussed in the meeting. Dorin Recean issued an invitation to Austrian companies to examine the investment opportunities in our country, offered by Free Economic Zones and IT and Industrial Parks.
The officials also exchanged views on the security situation at the regional level, against the backdrop of Russia's war against Ukraine.
The President of the Austrian Parliament expressed his firm support for the ambitious reform program initiated by the authorities, and for the irreversible course of the Republic of Moldova's integration into the European Union: "The map of the European Union is incomplete without the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine", said the Austrian official at the meeting held at the Government.
