Inter in Champions League final after 13 years
Inter Milan have qualified for the Champions League final after a 13-year break. The Simone Inzaghi-led side beat AC Milan 1-0 in the second leg of the semi-finals. Inter, who had also won the first leg 2-0, deservedly qualified, clearly outclassing their arch-rivals in both legs.
The "Rossoneri" disappointed in the second half, with only one shot on goal in the first half, and in the second half they didn't create a single scoring chance. The "Nerazzuri" struck in the 74th minute. Romelu Lukaku passed to Lautaro Martinez, and the Argentine beat Mike Maignan with a shot from the top corner.
The world champion came close to a rebound, but the French goalkeeper denied the South American striker's curling ball.
"In the next few days we will realise what we have achieved. Initially, it was a dream for us, but we always believed in it and we had a great journey. We feel great satisfaction because we won this derby." Inter coach Simone Inzaghi said after the match.
"Considering our path and what we have done in the last 3 years, it would have been fabulous to reach the final. We didn't qualify and it's a big disappointment. It's a more difficult season than we expected, but a season from which we learned a lot." AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli said.
Internazionale's players started the party right on the pitch.
Afterwards the fans celebrated with fireworks in the streets of Milan. Internazionale is the last Italian team to win the Champions League. It happened in 2009/2010.
