Comrat Court of Appeal will examine on May 22 the validation of the mandate of the Bashkan of ATU Gagauzia
The Comrat Court of Appeals will examine on Monday, May 22, the validation of the mandate of the Bashkan of ATU Gagauzia, Evghenia Gutul, after the region's Electoral Council presented yesterday the final results of the elections for the post of Bashkan of the autonomy and sent the documents for validation to the court.
According to the data of the Central Electoral Council of Gagauzia, in the second round of the elections for governor of the autonomous region, held on Sunday, May 14, the candidate of the Sor Party, Evghenia Guțul, obtained 52.39% of the votes, while her opponent, Grigori Uzun, supported by the Party of Socialists, received 47.61% of the votes.
The election took place against the backdrop of several violations of electoral law, including voter bribery, detected by police and the ANC during raids on the electoral authority's headquarters and voters' homes.
At the same time, the Central Electoral Commission initiated eight contravention proceedings on the illegal financing of electoral contestants who received donations from individuals exceeding the maximum ceiling set by law for cash donations during the elections held in the Gagauz Territorial Administrative Unit.
The CEC additionally found donations made by individuals exceeding the limits for cash donations for candidates Evghenia Guțul and Grigori Uzun.
Each of the 106 donors, who are suspected of illegal financing by exceeding the cash donation ceiling, are liable for the admitted violations. Violations of this rule are punishable by fines.
