Nicu Popescu meets Olivér Várhelyi: "The Republic of Moldova is determined to become a future EU member state"

The Republic of Moldova is determined to become a future member state of the European Union, or the European integration is the only way for a peaceful development of the region. The opinion was expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs from Chisinau, Nicu Popescu, during a meeting in Brussels with the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi.

"I met today in Brussels with Olivér Várhelyi, the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, on which occasion I told the European official that our country is determined to become a future member state of the European Union. European integration, through the deep, complex and necessary reforms requested by our citizens, is the only way for a peaceful development of our region", wrote Minister Nicu Popescu on his Facebook page. The head of diplomacy from Chisinau declared, during the meeting, that the Republic of Moldova relies on the support of the European institutions and the EU member states for the launch of accession negotiations to the European Union. The European Commissioner was assured, in this context, that all the recommendations formulated by the European Commission, according to the adopted national action plan, will be implemented. We remind you that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicu Popescu, is making an official visit to Brussels today. The Moldovan official participated in the ministerial meeting of the European Parliament, together with the foreign ministers from the EU member states and their counterparts from the Eastern Partnership countries. The main topics addressed during the meeting concerned the future of the Eastern Partnership, as well as the challenges and consequences generated by the war in Ukraine.
