Measures to counter hybrid threats discussed by Nicu Popescu and MEPs of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence

Measures to counter hybrid threats faced by Moldova and challenges to regional and internal security were discussed today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu and MEPs of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Security and Defence.

The cooperation of the Republic of Moldova with the European Parliament is an important aspect in the process of accession to the European Union, said Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu at the meeting with the delegation of MEPs. According to Popescu, the authorities in Chisinau are counting on the EP's support in the process of strengthening Moldova's security.

"During the discussion we reported on the measures to counter the hybrid threats our country is facing and the challenges related to regional and internal security. We also talked about the efforts aimed at increasing cooperation with the EU in the field of the Common Security and Defence Policy, as well as the measures to redress the situation in the energy sector. In this regard, we also welcomed the recent decision of the European Council to open a civilian partnership mission in the Republic of Moldova", wrote Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu on his Facebook page.

Nicu Popescu presented to the EP delegation the main achievements in the field of European integration, described in the Republic of Moldova's contribution to the EU Enlargement Report.

The official thanked the MEPs for their support to Moldova and assured that the authorities in Chisinau will continue to strengthen regional resilience and security.

Members of the subcommittee are Nathalie Loiseau (RENEW); Eugen Tomac (European People's Party); Arnaud Danjean (European People's Party); Assita Kanko (European Conservatives and Reformists); Viola von Cramon-Taubadel (Greens) and Jean-Lin Lacapelle (Identity and Democracy Party).

In the afternoon, MEPs will hold a press conference in Chisinau.
