Marcel Ciolacu: Ukraine's post-war reconstruction implies "an eventual reconstruction of the Republic of Moldova"

Ukraine's post-war reconstruction also implies "an eventual reconstruction of the Republic of Moldova", Marcel Ciolacu, President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament, said on Thursday at the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum, according to Agerpres.

"The shortest road to reconstruction is through Romania," he said.

According to Ciolacu, in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine, "60% of all Ukraine's exports and logistics needed by Ukraine have transited Romania".

"We have a duty to live up to expectations, to create the necessary infrastructure, to continue what we have started and especially what the Ministry of Transport has started, and we must make a connection on the railways, with European gauge. This can only be done primarily through the Republic of Moldova, linking Pascani-Iasi to Chisinau. We cannot talk about the reconstruction of Ukraine without talking about the eventual reconstruction of the Republic of Moldova. There are two things together", said the head of the Chamber of Deputies.

He added that the Romanian Parliament offers to "logistically help" the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine on their European path, which "must be a common one".

"Obviously there will be a reconstruction of Ukraine. All free and democratic countries must be involved in this reconstruction", said Marcel Ciolacu.
