Igor Grosu at the Bucharest Security Forum: Chisinau authorities do everything to maintain peace and stability in the country
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu spoke at the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum about strengthening Moldova's resilience in the face of a hybrid war from Russia and the support the international community can offer our country.
The head of the legislature participated online in the Bucharest Forum as part of a thematic panel dedicated to measures to support the European integration process of Moldova and Ukraine by the international community, which was also attended by the President of the Romanian Senate, Alina Gorghiu, the President of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, and the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk.
In his speech, Igor Grosu stressed that the authorities in Chisinau have done everything to maintain peace and stability in the country, while helping refugees from Ukraine.
"At present, about 85,000 Ukrainians have decided to stay in the Republic of Moldova, and we will help them with what little we have and provide them with all the assistance that our citizens receive," said the Speaker.
The head of the legislature also referred to the fact that for more than a year now the Republic of Moldova has been subjected to a hybrid war by Russia.
"For years, we have been subjected to energy blackmail, and thanks to the support of our development partners, we have strengthened our energy security and will continue our interconnection projects," said Igor Grosu.
In his speech at the forum, the President of the Parliament spoke about the progress made by our country on its European course and the reform agenda implemented.
"The speed at which we are moving is good and we hope that by the end of the year the EU accession negotiations for Moldova and Ukraine will start. This would give even more impetus to the population, to the supporters of the European path to put even more effort into this path", the head of the legislature pointed out.
In this context, the Speaker reviewed the main actions taken by the authorities to strengthen Moldova's defence capabilities and responsible institutions, including in the fight against propaganda, citing the assistance provided by development partners, in particular Romania, the EU and NATO.
On 18-19 May, the seventh edition of the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum - an international security conference in a regional format, bringing together guests with extensive professional experience from different countries to discuss risks, threats and vulnerabilities in the Black Sea and Balkans region - will take place in Bucharest.
