Spring Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly starts: The security situation amid the war in Ukraine, among the main topics
The spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly begins today, May 19, in Luxembourg. Thus, more than 250 parliamentarians will debate several current topics, including the security situation in the context of the war started by the Russian Federation in Ukraine. At the end, a declaration will be voted on, which will express support for Ukraine.
The session will begin with a joint meeting of the governing body of the Assembly and the Ukraine-NATO Inter-Parliamentary Council.
"The Assembly will reaffirm its firm position against Russia's unjustified, unprovoked and brutal war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as its firm support for Ukraine's democracy, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity," reads a press release of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
The Luxembourg session will also review the progress made in implementing NATO's new Strategic Concept and the decisions taken at last year's NATO Summit in Madrid.
The head of the delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Ion Șpac, will also be present at the event. The deputy will participate in the meetings of the Security and Defense Committee, the Political Committee and the plenary session, which is planned for May 22.
We note that the NATO Parliamentary Assembly is an interparliamentary organization, which brings together parliamentarians from the member states of the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as from associated countries. The Republic of Moldova has been an associate member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly since November 1994.
