EU Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova: Justice reform in the Republic of Moldova is an ongoing success story

The justice reform in the Republic of Moldova is an ongoing success story, said the EU ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Janis Mazeiks, in the program "La 360 de grade" on Radio Moldova. The official emphasized the importance of conducting the pre-vetting in a fair way, as the initiated reform cannot be adjusted easily.

"I agree with the assessment given by the Ministry of Justice that the quality of this process prevails over the speed with which we do it. We have a sure chance to do things right, it's not something we can easily adjust", the ambassador noted. According to the European diplomat, the evaluation process of judges and prosecutors is non-politicized. "The process that has taken place so far is a good one, you have a non-politicized evaluation process by two Councils of Magistrates and Prosecutors, and it is very important that this process continues. We understand that there are frustrations, that this process is not moving quickly, but we have seen a lot of examples in Europe when the vetting took place, and we have also seen bad examples. For this reason, we are quite cautious not to rush, but to have a thorough evaluation of the files we work with", stated Janis Mazeiks. Moreover, the EU ambassador in our country noted that the competent institutions of the state will better manage the fight against corruption, if the justice reform is successfully carried out.
