"IN CONTEXT"// Szijjarto signs a cultural cooperation agreement in Chisinau and sent a message of support for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU
There is no victory for the poor Ukrainians on the battlefield, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said yesterday. Today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, visiting Chisinau, explained what is the official position of Budapest.
Therefore, Hungary insists on concluding a Russian-Ukrainian armistice. Minister Szijjarto signed a cultural cooperation agreement in Chisinau and at the same time sent a message of support for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union. However, on the Ukrainian issue, Hungary has a distinct approach.
Peter Szijjarto, Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs, referred to the war in the neighboring country:
"We represent a nation whose members, unfortunately, die in this war. There is a significant Hungarian community living in Ukraine, whose representatives are conscripted into the Ukrainian army. Being citizens of Ukraine, a significant part of them are taken to the front line, where, unfortunately, they die. For this reason and in general, we would like the number of casualties to be as low as possible and to save lives, but lives can only be saved by peace, not by war."
"The Republic of Moldova strongly condemns this aggression against Ukraine, we have spoken several times that Russia continues hostile policies, including towards our country. At this stage, the Republic of Moldova is not subject to military risks, so in this sense our military security is not threatened. At the same time, we are the target of several destabilization attempts initiated by and with the support of the Russian Federation", said Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
