Anca Dragu (USR) also submitted her candidacy for this position, who got 16 votes "for" and 88 "against".

The leader of the USR group in the Senate, Radu Mihail, pleaded for debates by the representatives of the parliamentary groups and for the presentation of the candidates, which would precede the vote, but the election took place "through the usual procedure", as specified by Alina Gorghiu, the president of the meeting.

We mention that Nicolae Ciucă submitted his mandate as prime minister on Monday so that the procedures regarding the government rotation could be started. In his place, the president of the PSD, Marcel Ciolacu, is to be appointed as prime minister. Nicolae Ciucă preferred to take over the leadership of the Senate, the second position in the state, instead of occupying another position in the Government.

On June 29, 2022, Florin Cîțu resigned from the position of president of the Senate, and since then Alina Gorghiu has been acting as interim president.
