The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, received at the Presidency the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Luminița Odobescu, who is on her first visit to Chisinau since assuming the mandate. According to a press release from the presidential institution, the discussions focused on the European integration of the Republic of Moldova and cooperation with Romania.
"I congratulated Minister Odobescu on the occasion of her new position and thanked her that the Republic of Moldova continues to be a priority for Romania. During the meeting, we discussed the EU accession process, the reforms we are making, but also the bilateral agenda. Romania was and remains a strong supporter of the Republic of Moldova. We will continue to work together to promote prosperity, stability and shared values, for the benefit of citizens on both banks of the Prut River," wrote Maia Sandu on her Facebook account.
Luminița Odobescu welcomed the efforts of the Chisinau authorities to promote reforms and crisis management and assured that Romania will "resolutely" support the Republic of Moldova.
"Honored by the reception at Mrs. President Maia Sandu. We had substantive discussions regarding the progress of the Republic of Moldova on the path to the EU and regarding the consolidation of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the Republic of Moldova. Romania welcomes the consistent reform and crisis management efforts and will resolutely support the Republic of Moldova!", the foreign minister wrote on his Facebook account.
Luminița Odobescu will also have meetings with his counterpart Nicu Popescu, after which the two officials will hold a press conference.
The event will be broadcast live on the social networks of the Public Broadcaster "Teleradio-Moldova".
Luminița Odobescu succeeds Bogdan Aurescu and was sworn in as Minister of Foreign Affairs last week in the Government led by Marcel Ciolacu. The authorities in Bucharest assure that, despite the government roadblocks, the Republic of Moldova continues to be a priority for Romania.
