EU and US representatives call for an urgent de-escalation of the situation in northern Kosovo

The European Union's special envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Miroslav Lajčak, said that he fully agreed with the opinion of the US assistant secretary of state, Victoria Nuland, regarding the situation in northern Kosovo, the importance of urgent de-escalation of the situation and the return to the discussions mediated by the EU, reports the Beta press agency.

Lajčak tweeted that he had a "very good discussion" with Nuland.

"We share the same positions regarding the situation in northern Kosovo and the ways to get out of the crisis. We agreed that it is very important to urgently de-escalate and to return to the dialogue table under the auspices of the EU" - posted Lajčak, who is visiting Washington at the invitation of American partners, for discussions on the way forward and immediate steps to resolve the crisis in northern Kosovo .

Moreover, during this visit, Lajčak and the US emissary for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, called on the leaders in Belgrade and Pristina to focus on dialogue and to contribute to de-escalating the situation in northern Kosovo, warning that otherwise there will be consequences for both parties.
