The two officers were buried with military honors in their native towns. President Maia Sandu decreed a day of mourning on July 4 in their memory and awarded them posthumously the "Military Merit" Medal.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean stated that thanks to the prompt actions of the border police and Airport employees, the attacker from Tajikistan was identified and several victims were thus avoided. The prime minister noted that the attacker passed through several airports, including Istanbul, considered one of the most secure, but was not identified.

Asked if the Minister of the Interior and the head of the Border Police will be dismissed, as requested by several politicians and opinion leaders, Dorin Recean replied that a decision in this regard could only be made after all investigations have been completed.

"At the end of this week, we will have the first detailed report on the actions of all the structures within the airport, after which the investigation carried out by the prosecutor's office will also be completed. That's when we will make a decision", said the prime minister.

We remind you that on June 30, an armed incident happened at the Chisinau International Airport. A citizen from Tajikistan fatally shot two employees of the security forces: the border policeman, Serghei Muntean, and the security guard, Igor Ciofu.

During the exchange of fire, the attacker had been wounded and was in serious health condition. In the evening of July 3, he died in a hospital in the Republic of Moldova. The lifeless body of Rustam Ashurov will be repatriated to Tajikistan.
