Legion "Freedom of Russia" plans new operations in the border area
The "Freedom of Russia" Legion, a battalion of volunteer paramilitaries, is planning new operations in Russia's border area, a spokesman for the group said, reports Agerpres with reference to dpa.
"There will be another surprise in the next month or so," Maksimilian Andronikov, known by the pseudonym Caesar, told the British publication The Observer in an interview broadcast on Sunday. "It will be our third operation," he added.
After that, there will be a fourth and a fifth, Andronikov warned. "We have grand plans. We want to liberate our entire territory," he conveyed.
The "Freedom of Russia" Legion includes Russian nationalists currently fighting on Ukraine's side.
In May and June, the legion's fighters, together with the Russian Volunteer Corps, took part in attacks in the Russian border region of Belgorod, near Ukraine.
According to Ukrainian intelligence services, such operations are aimed, among other things, at liberating the area from Russian President Vladimir Putin's regime. The government in Kiev insists it had nothing to do with the attacks.
