Hundreds of hectares of orchards and vineyards destroyed by heavy rain
Several hectares of vines were damaged by hail following heavy rainfall on 26 July. About 60 ha were destroyed in Orhei district, 20 ha in Dubasari district and 9 ha in Cahul district. At the same time, the storms affected several agricultural crops and orchards, reports the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.
Thus, in Edinet district, 70 ha of apple orchards were destroyed in the locality of Cupcini, 102 ha in the village of Parcova, 19 ha in the city of Edinet and 44 ha of apple orchards were destroyed in the locality of Cusnita in Dubasari district.
Also in Dubasari district, rain and wind gusts destroyed 147 ha of maize, 10 ha of wheat and 10 ha of vegetables. In the village of Ceadir, Leova district, 100 ha of sunflowers and 50 ha of maize and wheat were destroyed by rain. According to the IGSU, several houses in the Dondușeni district were left without roofs due to strong winds.
So far, 10 localities in Edinet district remain disconnected from electricity.
On 25 and 26 July, heavy rain, hail and strong winds fell in the Republic of Moldova.
On Friday, 28 July, the government will hold an extraordinary meeting. Earlier, Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that the state reserves would be used to distribute the necessary resources to help citizens deal with the consequences of the heavy rains.
