Another step has been taken in the fight against corruption. The legislative initiative has been sent to Parliament for consideration and adoption
The draft law providing for the creation of the Anti-Corruption Court, initiated by head of state Maia Sandu, has been sent to Parliament. According to a press release issued by the presidency, the document was drafted after a series of consultations and opinion gathering on the concept of creating a court specialising in corruption cases.
The draft aims to strengthen efforts to fight corruption and to ensure a speedy and high-quality examination of complex corruption cases.
It regulates the organisation and activity of the specialised court for corruption cases and the anti-corruption panel of the Chisinau Court of Appeal. The specialised court will also examine the legality of the findings issued by ANI, as well as the Authority's requests for confiscation of unjustified assets.
The legislative initiative, which came from Moldovan President Maia Sandu, was improved with proposals collected from civil society, judges, prosecutors and other legal experts. Development partners also commented on the draft.
In addition, the draft law contains rules on amending the related regulatory framework, which will ensure the functionality of the anti-corruption judicial system.
The legislative initiative has been sent to Parliament for consideration and adoption. Parliament will organise public consultation and endorsement of the draft in accordance with the legislation in force.
