Moldovan cherry exports to the EU increased 12.5 times in 2023
Deliveries of Moldovan cherries to the European Union increased 12.5 times this year, compared to 2022. Thus, if last year 208 tons were exported, in 2023 the figure reaches 2600 tons, totaling a value of 7,442,000 dollars, according to the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova.
A further 163 tonnes were exported to the UK.
Also, this year Moldovan cherries were exported for the first time in Spain, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands.
"Specialists believe that the success in expanding the geography of exports is due to investments in modern varieties, in post-harvest infrastructure and in the implementation of international standards," reads a press release of the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova.
We mention that in all, this year, the Republic of Moldova exported more than 16,000 tons of cherries, worth more than 22 million dollars.
