Diaspora Congress 2023: President Sandu discusses flight shortage, other issues
President Maia Sandu assured the Diaspora Congress 2023 that the authorities are working hard to remedy the shortage of air flights to Chisinau. She said that the government's efforts have not yet produced enough results, but she is optimistic that the number of flights to and from Moldova will increase.
Sandu said that the pandemic and the war in Ukraine have caused problems that have led to a reduction in the number of air flights to Chisinau. She said that the authorities are working to resolve this issue and that they are taking into account the number of Moldovans in each country when prioritising destinations for new flights.
Sandu also spoke about other actions that the authorities have taken to support the diaspora, such as reducing the consular fee by 50%, signing social protection agreements, and liberalising roaming with the EU. She reminded compatriots that personal belongings are exempt from customs duties if they want to return to live in Moldova. She also told them about the benefits of the European Village and European Village Express programs.
Sandu also spoke about the amendments to the Electoral Code, saying that as a result, citizens from the diaspora will have better conditions for participating in electoral processes.
