Card payments in Moldova grow by 30%

Card payments in Moldova have grown by 30% in the past two years, according to economic expert Veaceslav Ioniță.

In the last 12 months, Moldovans paid for goods and services with cards worth 56.6 billion lei (about $300 million). This represents 30% of all purchases, up from 15% in 2020.

The increase in card payments is due to a number of factors, including the growing popularity of online shopping, the spread of contactless payments, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some Moldovans still prefer to pay in cash, citing concerns about security and privacy. However, the trend is clear: card payments are becoming increasingly popular in Moldova.
