Ukraine begins military operation to liberate Crimea
Ukraine has begun a military operation to liberate the Crimean Peninsula from Russian occupation, according to a senior adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Mikhailo Podolyak, the chief adviser to the Ukrainian president, said in an interview with HotNews.ro that Ukraine is carrying out a well-planned campaign to retake the peninsula, which was annexed by Russia in 2014.
"The plans for the liberation of Crimea are beginning to be implemented," Podolyak said. "That is why the intensity of the fighting is increasing, including the destruction of strategic depots, airfields, and transport logistics on the peninsula. The number of bombings, including those carried out with long-range missiles, is also increasing. In addition, certain ground operations are beginning."
Podolyak said that Ukraine does not see any other way to liberate Crimea than by force, a position that is supported by the international community.
"If in 2021, during the first edition of the Crimea Platform, practically no country other than Ukraine even could imagine that Crimea could be liberated by military means, now, in principle, already over 60 countries that have participated in the third edition of the Crimea Platform are of the opinion that Crimea can be liberated, that is, the issue of liberation from Russian occupation can be resolved only through military means," Podolyak said. "Crimea will be liberated by military means."
He said that the liberation of Crimea will not happen overnight, but that Ukraine is committed to the goal.
"I don't have an exact deadline for when the liberation process will be completed," Podolyak said. "This depends on a number of factors, including the delivery of weapons from our partners."
