Mircea Geoana for Moldova 1 TV: The interest of the leaders of the Republic of Moldova is to have an army as robust and competent as possible
The challenges launched by the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova will not stop, and the authorities in our country must definitely strengthen national security. This is the statement made by the deputy secretary of NATO, Mircea Geoană, in an interview for Moldova 1 TV. Geoană mentioned that the North Atlantic Alliance will continue to collaborate with our country so that the armed forces of the state become interoperable.
Russian aggression at the mouths of the Danube
On an official visit to the Republic of Moldova, the deputy secretary of the North Atlantic Alliance, Mircea Geoană, stated that currently no deliberate intention of the Russian Federation to attack the Romanian territory or another allied territory has been detected because that would mean an unprecedented escalation of this conflict. He said that there are currently no risks for the Republic of Moldova, in the context of Russian aggression at the mouths of the Danube.
"My message is calm, trust. It is very good that we are in NATO and Romania is also trying, bilaterally, and we, trilaterally, together with the European Union, to help the Republic of Moldova strengthen its own national security, resilience and be able to face these challenges."
NATO partnership with the Republic of Moldova
Mircea Geoană claims that NATO, in common with the European Union, will continue to invest in the Republic of Moldova to strengthen its economic, institutional, civic and military resilience.
"A program to make the armed forces of the Republic of Moldova interoperable, not part of NATO, but interoperable with NATO. Why? Because we are the best in the world at what we do. The war in Ukraine is a clear proof - the Ukrainians, with doctrine, with training, with a NATO-type command and control system, are much more efficient than what the Russian Federation offers. And the interest of the leaders of the Republic of Moldova is to have, being neutral and respecting this, an army as robust and competent as possible. NATO is willing to work with the Republic of Moldova in this direction", said the deputy secretary of NATO. Mircea Geoană is on his first official visit to the Republic of Moldova since his inauguration as deputy secretary of the North Atlantic Alliance.
