Maia Sandu meets with US officials to discuss Moldova's democratic reforms
Moldovan President Maia Sandu met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and USAID Administrator Samantha Power on Wednesday to discuss Moldova's democratic reforms.
In a meeting with Blinken, Sandu expressed gratitude for US support for Moldova's efforts to protect democratic values.
"We are grateful to the United States for their continued support and partnership in our common effort to protect our democratic values and strengthen our state institutions," Sandu wrote on her Facebook page after the meeting.
In a separate meeting with Power, Sandu discussed Moldova's progress on judicial reform and economic recovery.
"I am deeply grateful for the strong and enduring partnership between USAID and Moldova. We will continue to work together to ensure a more prosperous future for our citizens," Sandu said.
Moldovan Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu also expressed gratitude for the partnership with USAID.
"We are grateful for the strong and long-standing partnership with USAID," Popescu said.
Sandu, accompanied by Popescu and Health Minister Ala Nemerenco, attended the opening of the 78th United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.
"Moldova's participation on the international stage underscores our firm commitment to strengthening ties with our European partners and promoting the values of the free and democratic world," Sandu said.
