"I was pleased to meet with UN Secretary-General Guterres in New York," Sandu said in a statement. "We discussed Moldova's achievements and challenges, and we talked about the role our country can play in promoting peace and sustainable development."

At the UN General Assembly, Sandu delivered a speech in which she called for continued international support for Ukraine and Moldova. She also spoke about Moldova's commitment to democracy and its efforts to promote regional security.

"Today, the fight for democracy in any corner of the world is a fight for democracy everywhere," Sandu said. "We continue to stand with our neighbors and friends in Ukraine as they fight against Russia's brutal invasion, because Ukraine's victory is the victory of the free world. All countries must continue their unwavering support. In these difficult times, unity is our strength. Economic progress, strengthening security, and a consolidated democracy are the steps that bring us closer to EU accession. Moldova's accession to the EU is not just a political choice, it is the only way to protect freedom, peace, and democracy - in Moldova and on the continent."

Sandu also called on the international community to demand the withdrawal of Russian troops from Moldova's territory.
