Igor Grosu: We will strive to ensure fair elections

During the meeting with observers from the European Parliament, the Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu assured that the authorities will do their best to ensure that the local general elections on November 5 are fair and that people vote freely, informs the press service of the Parliament.

According to the cited source, during the discussions, the Parliament Speaker thanked the observers for the interest shown and emphasized the fact that the authorities are counting on free and fair elections. In this context, the Parliament Speaker referred to certain threats, including the propaganda of the Russian Federation, as well as the numerous attempts to defraud the election by corrupting the voters.

"It is an effort by the Russian Federation and corrupt groups to destabilize the situation and come to power through these corrupt actions. Also, state institutions intervene to combat these phenomena and illegalities", added Igor Grosu.

The participants in the discussions mentioned that this year's general local elections are very important, as the voters will decide who are the more than 12 thousand people who will lead the country at the local level for the next four years.

The general local elections on 5 November 2023 will be monitored by more than 1500 national and international observers. According to the CEC, the 401 accredited international observers represent 17 accredited diplomatic missions in the Republic of Moldova (93 people), 13 foreign electoral authorities (30 people), an international association (2 people). The OSCE/ODIHR election observation mission will be represented by 235 people, ENEMO - 11 people, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe - 20 people and the European Parliament - 12 people.
