"United4Moldova" meeting. Maia Sandu: We chose the European path and the EU states will have to make a choice soon
The first meeting of the presidents of the Commissions for the affairs of the European Union and of the Commissions for foreign affairs from the countries of the European Union took place at the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. The event titled "United4Moldova" was held on the platform of the Foreign Policy and European Integration Commission.
Present at the event, President Maia Sandu declared that the Republic of Moldova chose European integration to ensure the country's peace and stability. "Today, in the Parliament, there are around 80 representatives of the Parliaments of the European Union states and ambassadors. They are here because we, the Moldovans, made a choice, we chose the European path, and soon the EU states will have a choice to make - our acceptance as potential members of the European family. Now it seems natural to me that we are discussing the negotiations, the accession process to the European Union, the fulfillment of the commitments to the European Commission, in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova", said Maia Sandu.
The presence of parliamentarians from EU member countries is a strong signal that the Republic of Moldova has reliable friends and is a clear expression of solidarity with our country's European path, said the Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu, in his speech.
"Moldova can only develop in a community of free and democratic countries, where laws work and are respected, and people can live freely and peacefully. For more than two years we have been working side by side to build a united society, a country where people can live well, to be proud of and to be respected by everyone. We started judicial reforms, and there are the first results. We have strengthened energy security, we are no longer dependent on gas from Gazprom, we are increasingly connected to the European energy network. We continue to eliminate bureaucracy and to digitize the economy", said Igor Grosu.
From the rostrum of the Parliament, the EU ambassador in Chisinau, Jānis Mažeiks, said that the European Union believes in the European future of the Republic of Moldova and will support its efforts to overcome the obstacles that may appear in the way of joining the EU bloc.
"The best way to evolve on the path of European integration is to meet all the requirements and to make progress in the implementation of reforms. Since last year, the Republic of Moldova has shown a strong commitment to fulfilling the 9 recommendations established by the European Commission. Many good things have been done in this regard despite the difficult circumstances," said the ambassador.
We remind that parliamentarians from different EU member states, representatives of the European Parliament and diplomats debated the subject of the European perspective of our country and how the European integration efforts of the Republic of Moldova can be supported. The officials presented the situation in our country, the progress made in the process of accession to the community block and the challenges to be overcome by our country.
