EBRD will provide a loan for the modernization of the national road sectors connecting the capital with two border crossing points

Two sectors of the national road connecting the capital to PTF Leușeni, the border with Romania, and Dubăsari, the border with Ukraine, will be rehabilitated and modernized. The Government approved the initiation of negotiations on the Loan Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) regarding the implementation of the "Moldova V" road rehabilitation project.

According to the Government, the M2 road, Chisinau city belt, sector 2, will be rehabilitated and modernized by expanding it to 4 traffic lanes, with an estimated length of 7 km. Also, an estimated 85 km of the M1 road, the border with Romania – Leușeni – Chisinau – Dubăsari – the border with Ukraine will be repaired.

"These sections are of national and strategic importance both for streamlining traffic and for improving the connectivity of the Republic of Moldova with Ukraine and the European Union," reads the Government's press release.

The authorities will contract a loan in the total amount of 150 million euros. The amount represents 50% of the co-financing of the "Moldova V" road rehabilitation project, the other part of the amount being allocated by the European Investment Bank.
