Heavy snowfall causes road closures in Moldova
Update: 5pm The following roads are currently closed in Moldova due to heavy snowfall:
- R-35 Comrat-Cantemir, for a 2-kilometer stretch from the exit of the village of Vișniovca in Cantemir district to the village of Dudulești in Comrat district
- R-34 at the exit of the city of Leova towards Sărata Nouă, including the village of Sărata Nouă, on certain stretches
Original story
The Police of the Republic of Moldova announced that the R-30 road, on the section between the cities of Anenii Noi and Căușeni, is closed. Drivers are asked to avoid travelling in this area.
In addition, the following road sections are also closed:
- Between the villages of Congaz and Svetlîi in Cahul district - at Badicu, Baurci
- In Leova district - Iargara, Ciadîr
- In Cantemir district - Larguța, Capaclia, Haragis
- In Ștefan Vodă district - Rascaieți
The State Road Administration (ASR) noted that roads in the country are under winter conditions, and that the condition of the roads can change rapidly due to the snowstorm. For this reason, drivers are urged to avoid long-distance travel.
The General Inspectorate of Police (IGP) announced that it has increased the number of police officers deployed on the roads and in villages with over 1,000 residents.
In addition, the IGP's Rapid Response Brigade (BRDS "Fulger") is providing support to the police. A truck and two SUVs are heading to Anenii Noi and Căușeni.
