Nicu Popescu, in Riga: "We are determined to stay and to develop as part of the free world"

Moldovan-Latvian regional cooperation, regional security, as well as cooperation in integration, were discussed on Thursday, January 5, in Riga, by the head of diplomacy from Chisinau, Nicu Popescu, and his Latvian counterpart, Edgars Rinkēvičs. While on an official visit to Latvia, the Foreign Minister from Chisinau gave assurances: the Republic of Moldova wants to develop and to remain part of the free world.

“At our press conference we stated that our solidarity with Ukraine remains unwavering. As Moldova advances on its path to EU membership, we continue development projects, strengthen democratic institutions, reform the justice system, fight corruption and generate economic opportunities. We are determined to stay and to develop as part of the free world", wrote Minister Nicu Popescu on his Facebook page. The official from Chisinau declares that he agreed, together with the Foreign Minister of Latvia, to relaunch the activity of the Moldovan-Latvian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Industrial and Technical-Scientific Cooperation and the Moldovan-Latvian Business Council. "I also referred to the need to complete the negotiations and to sign the Agreement in the field of social security and the possibility of concluding agreements in the field of driver's license conversion and cooperation between the institutions for internal affairs in our countries," wrote Nicu Popescu. In recent decades, about 90 projects supported by Latvia have supported the regional development of the Republic of Moldova, the reform of the judicial system, the consolidation of the financial system, the improvement of border management, the health system, the support of independent media and many others. We remind you that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, is on a working visit to Latvia on January 5, after on January 4 he visited Estonia.
