Ukraine warns of "high cost" of delaying EU accession
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has issued a stark warning to the European Union, stating that a failure to open accession talks with his country would have "disastrous consequences" not only for Ukraine, but also for the bloc as a whole.
"I cannot even imagine, I don't even want to talk about the devastating consequences that could be caused if the European Council does not make a decision, not only for Ukraine, but also for the expansion of the Union as a whole," Kuleba said.
Kuleba made the remarks ahead of the European Union Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, which took place three days before a crucial summit where EU leaders were set to decide whether to launch accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova.
"Ukraine will become a member of the European Union. The only question is whether someone will slow down the process - which will have a high cost - or whether we will be able to move forward without obstacles," Kuleba added.
