Moldova gears up for safe Christmas: Firefighters on enhanced duty
As Christmas Eve approaches, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) in Moldova is prioritising public safety by deploying over 400 firefighters and rescuers across the country.
Equipped with 140 units of specialised equipment, they stand ready to respond to any fire emergencies and ensure a joyous and hazard-free holiday for all citizens.
"The festive season often involves increased use of candles and heating appliances, which unfortunately elevates the risk of fire incidents," noted an IGSU spokesperson. "Therefore, we strongly urge everyone to celebrate responsibly and prioritise fire safety measures."
Key Steps for a Safe Celebration:
- Tree Stability: Ensure your Christmas tree stands securely on a sturdy base, well away from flammable materials like curtains, carpets, and electrical outlets.
- Candle Caution: While the charm of flickering candles is undeniable, their proximity to the tree poses a significant fire risk. Consider flameless LED alternatives for enhanced safety.
- Flawed Decorations: Inspect all holiday decorations and lighting before use. Replace damaged or frayed electrical components immediately. Remember to disconnect all lights and garlands at night.
- Heat Awareness: Keep open flames and heating sources at a safe distance from your festive display. Avoid overloading electrical outlets to prevent overheating.
Emergency Response:
IGSU reminds residents to remain calm and dial 112 immediately in case of any fire incident. Their prompt response and dedicated Christmas Eve deployment underscore their commitment to safeguarding the well-being of Moldovans during this celebratory time.
