Moldova prepares for EU talks, chief negotiator awaits unveiling
Anticipation for Moldova's EU accession talks hangs heavy in the air, with Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu promising a familiar face to lead negotiations.
"Individuals renowned for their experience and EU trust are ready to take the helm," he declared in a recent interview on Moldova 1.
Grosu, while mum on the specific name, assured the public of an official announcement "at the opportune moment." He underscored the pivotal role of negotiations in attracting crucial financial resources and investments.
Moldova's eagerness to learn from seasoned members like Romania is evident. "There's much to discover along the way," Grosu acknowledged, referencing the country's swift transition from candidate status to negotiation stage within a year. "Our Romanian colleagues and the Baltic nations' expertise will be invaluable," he affirmed.
The path to EU membership began in June 2022 with the granting of candidate country status. After fulfilling nine EU-mandated conditions, Moldova secured the European Council's greenlight on December 14th, paving the way for formal negotiations.
