According to the National Social Security House (CNAS), over 33,000 children are expected to benefit from the allowance this year.

In Romania, child allowances are also increasing by 13.8% as of January 1, 2024. This means that Moldovans with dual citizenship will also benefit from the increase.

Pensions, social assistance for pensioners, and the salaries of some public sector employees in Romania are also increasing.

The minimum pension (or social assistance for pensioners) will increase from 1,125 Romanian leu to 1,281 Romanian leu. Child allowances are increasing by about 14%.

Taking into account the rising cost of food and services, the Romanian government has decided to increase the allowance for children under the age of two to 718 Romanian lei, which is about 2,700 Moldovan lei.

For children aged two to 18, the allowance has reached 291 Romanian lei, or about 1,100 Moldovan lei.

In June 2021, Bucharest decided to index child allowances annually with the average inflation rate, starting in 2023.

The increases in child benefits in Moldova and Romania are a welcome development for families with children. The increases will help to offset the rising cost of living and support the well-being of children.
