Leușeni-Albița border closed to trucks: Blizzard risks safety
The Leușeni-Albița border crossing between Romania and Moldova is experiencing severe traffic disruptions due to heavy snowfall and icy roads.
As of Monday morning, Romanian authorities have implemented a temporary ban on trucks exceeding 7.5 tons on a 16-kilometre stretch (km 33-49) leading to the border.
Meteorologists have issued an orange alert for the region, anticipating continued heavy snowfall and potentially stronger winds throughout Monday. Temperatures are expected to plummet by 10-15 degrees Celsius compared to recent days, further exacerbating the icy conditions.
The traffic restrictions are expected to remain in place until weather conditions improve significantly. Travellers planning to cross the border at Leușeni-Albița are advised to check with border authorities for the latest updates and consider alternative routes if possible.
